Patrick Stewart is a beloved actor who’s had many roles throughout his career. This graphical poster is an accurate portrayal of these roles while being visually appealing. It is symmetrical and monochromatic.  It is impressive to see how simplified he is while still being recognizable.

There is an immediate story to this image. The vacant eyes in an active scene suggest a feeling of loneliness in a crowded room. Saturation contrast is used effectively here; the highly saturated scene is full of life and there is a lot going on, while the desaturated face reflects the lifeless expression of the profile and the background sits back to avoid conflict with the scene.

In an age where Photoshop  is used everywhere, it is impressive to see a piece such as this. The technique used is light painting, an amazing effect of a single shot. More than just the impressive technique, this image makes use of both hue contrast and light-dark contrast.

Tōhoku - Japanese earthquake sculpture by Luke Jerram

Inspiration can be taken from anywhere, as shown with this image. The artist took an earthquake graph and turned it into a sculpture. It makes for an interesting piece, as does most pieces that derive their inspiration from nature. While the sculpture is meant to depict an earthquake, it is interesting to see the resemblance of it to a hurricane or tornado, such is nature.

This photomanipulation is very well thought out; the wave on the soda can to the twirl of the soda to the spiral straw to the twisted waist to the expression on her face. It is also a perfect example of analogous harmony, the tones used are only reds and pinks with white and skin tone accents.

David Stott Building, Detroit by DecoJim on Flickr.A replica of the David Scott Building out of LEGO. It is amazing what these bricks can do. While it only stands 7.5 feet tall, the photo is shot in worms-eye view, making it seem to scale. The colours of the building are accurate and one could not tell it was made of LEGO.

An amusing image full of stereotypes. Typical use of hue saturation in a map but not using the typical colours. The seemingly written typography adds to the satirical aspect of this composition.

This armour is another example of recycling non-recyclable materials. It is made entirely out of paper mache and bicycle tubes. The armour resembles leather and one would never assume it was made out of bicycle tubes. It is extremely well made and the design is intended to play on the strengths of the material.

Another fun piece! This is an amazing pumpkin carving. There are many other pumpkin carvings that are more complicated or difficult to carve, but this one is unique. The carver made the pumpkin seem soft, marshmallow-like, and life-like in texture. Very creative in thinking to carve something like this. Even the photograph of the piece is well done. There is no setting for it, the concentration is on the pumpkin (as it should be)

This design of a futuristic city works so well. One gets the sense that this is a place that could exist. The use of lights in the buildings are obviously not something we would see now, but the lighting itself is referential to something in any large city. There is a very high amount of contrast combined with warm/cool contrast and all of it works together.
